The genres mobile does best (and worst)

June 9, 2026 · Lukas Berger

Not every genre translates to a phone. Some feel like they were born for it, others always feel like a compromise. After a lot of hours across a lot of games, we have opinions.

Puzzle, casual, and management sims are natural fits. They work in short bursts, do not need precise inputs, and forgive you for putting the phone down mid-session. Adventure games with light controls also do beautifully on the small screen.

Where it gets shaky is anything demanding twitch precision with lots of simultaneous inputs. Some fast action games manage it, but you often feel the missing buttons. Real-time strategy sits in the middle — it works, but the screen size limits how much you can see at once.

None of this is a hard rule. Developers keep surprising us. But if you are new to mobile gaming, starting with genres that suit the format is the fastest way to actually enjoy it rather than getting frustrated.
