When touch controls actually feel good

When touch controls actually feel good

April 25, 2026 · Lukas Berger

Touchscreens are a weird thing to build a game around. There is no physical feedback, your thumbs cover part of the screen, and everyone holds their phone differently. Yet some games nail it so well you forget you are not holding a controller.

The best schemes keep the important buttons where your thumbs already rest and never bury a core action three menus deep. Racing games that offer both tilt and touch, like the ones we cover, get this right by letting you choose what suits you.

A quiet hero here is the settings menu. Adjustable button size, customizable layouts, the option to move a virtual stick — these small features turn an awkward game into a comfortable one. I always check for them early on.

If a game fights your hands after an hour of play, that is a design problem, not a you problem. Do not be afraid to drop something that never gets comfortable. There is too much good stuff out there to suffer through bad ergonomics.
